Writing A Personalized Children’s Book IV

Writing a personalized children’s book is so much fun!I am having fun writing with my grandchildren in mind. Cody’s book was first followed by Kayley’s and then the twins. Liam’s was about his favorite toy. Today I am focusing on “Phoebe’s Counting Book”. Phoebe loves to count and this book is about helping her to learn to count.

Let’s help Phoebe, learn how to count.

Generating a Concept

Phoebe loves to count and so I wanted to build on that. So what better way than to write a book for her that allows her to count numbers from 1 to 10.

Building the Plot

In this book Phoebe will count from 1 to 10. As she counts, each page will have the number introduced and that same number to be repeated in items on the page. The repetition will help to reinforce the numbers. With this in mind, I came up with the following questions

  1. What is the theme for the number?

  2. What will she count in each illustration?

Tying It All Together

The counting of the numbers ties this book together along with the Zen Doodle numbers on each page.

The Conclusion

By the end of the book, Phoebe will have counted to 10!

Illustrating the Story

So once the story was written, the illustrations came next. I am a Zen Doodle artist and loved making my writing come alive with my drawings.

Your Turn to Create a Story

Young children are often learning new skills such as counting. This book is a perfect example of helping children to learn a new skill. What skills could you help a young child with? How about table manners, or learning to use the potty? What can you come up with? I know that you, too, can do this! Give it a try.
